Even as the protest for reservation to the Kapu community continues to gather steam in Andhra, Kapu Corporation Chairman Ramanujaya has asked students from the community to praise Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on social media for his welfare schemes.
According to a report in The New Indian Express, Ramanujaya said that Naidu had given priority to the development of the Kapus even after leaders from other castes in the TDP pressurised him against allocation of more funds to the community.
Reportedly telling the students that it was their responsibility to propagate development programmes being taken up by the government, he added that they should post social media content praising Naidu.
“As all of you are active on social media like WhatsApp and facebook, it is your responsibility to propagate development programmes being taken up by the government for the benefit of Kapu community…Take up pro-government and pro-Chief Minister publicity on social media and persons like me will take the same to the notice of Naidu explaining him how grateful kapus are for his initiatives,” TNIE quoted him as saying.
This comes even as the Kapu Joint Action committee leaders have announced a phased protest plan from December 18 to January 26, to up the ante against the Naidu government, which had promised to provide reservation in education and jobs for the Kapu community.
The committee has alleged that the state was delaying the reservation intentionally.
Naidu, while on the campaign trail in 2014, had promised to provide reservation for the Kapu community if he came to power in the general elections.
Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham had earlier told the media that all that he wanted, was for Naidu to ‘keep his campaign promise’.
