A poster featuring actor Ramya Krishna posing as late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha kicked off a buzz recently, when it went viral on social media. Claiming to be advertising the film, “Mother”, apparently directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the poster was actually created by Fully Filmy, a movie merchandise company.

While the film is thus far an imaginary one, Ramya, who received the image via a Whatsapp forward, has been very excited by the idea.

“On earlier occasions, many journalists have asked me about my dream role — I didn’t have an answer then. But now I can say that I want to portray Jayalalitha madam, and that is the dream role I would want to have in my career. Though it is a highly challenging feat, I will not hesitate to sign on the dotted line, provided a good filmmaker with a lot of sensibility and a well-made script approaches me,” Ramya told Deccan Chronicle.

Ramya also told DC that it was not a desire for creating a buzz, but a genuine admiration for Jayalalitha that made her desire the role. “Amma was a bold and highly intelligent lady who was an inspiration to millions of women including me,” she said, adding that she would be honored to portray her on screen.

The actor has been on a strong run since her role as Sivagami in “Baahubali”. Not only is she playing a crucial part in “Baahubali: The Conclusion”, but she also has Kamal Haasan-starrer“Sabaash Naidu” and the heist comedy starring Suriya, “Thaana Serntha Kootam”, lined up.

A versatile actor who has defied industry norms to play an impressive variety of roles from vamp to goddess to menacing villain, Ramya would certainly be an interesting choice to play the powerful and inspiring figure of Jayalalitha. But audiences will have to wait and see if any film-makers do take the step to offer her this role of a lifetime.
