A Hyderabad court on Wednesday sentenced former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NT Rama Rao’s son, Nandamuri Jaya Krishna, to six months simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25 lakh, in a check bounce case.

The court was hearing a petition was filed by GS Narsing Rao.

The Times of India reported that the petitioner’s advocate S Someswar Rao, said that his client was running a canteen and cycle stand at the Rama Krishna theatre in Abids for 30 years.

Nandamuri Jayakrishna was the owner of the theatre, and had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with another party, for construction of a multiplex on the same theatre’s land.

“Mr Jaya Krishna has to return the security deposit of Rs 27 lakh to my client and he gave two cheques, one for Rs 19 lakh and another for Rs 8 lakh to my client on June 15, 2015. As the cheques bounced and there was no response from Jaya Krishna, my client lodged a petition with the 10th Special Magistrate Court in Erramanzil under Section 138 of the NI Act,” ToI quoted Someswar Rao as saying.

“However, Mr Jayakrishna got bail from the court as the judge directed him to pay Rs 10,000 as security deposit and gave time to appeal before October 5,” the advocate told Deccan Chronicle.

Jayakrishna is not the only son of NTR to be taken to court in recent times.

Last week, a YSRCP leader has moved the Hyderabad High Court seeking action from the Election Commission against actor-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna, for allegedly distributing money during the Nandyal bye-election campaign in Andhra Pradesh.

Balakrishna was at the centre of a controversy after footage showed him ‘distributing’ money to locals, while campaigning for the bye-election.

Photos and videos of the actor-politician distributing money to the voters had gone viral.
