Online hospitality startup Oyo has opened a new technology development center in Hyderabad on Friday in collaboration with the Telangana Govt. IT Minister KTR inaugurated the facility and is designed as a cutting-edge in-house technology hub focused on developing innovative products for customers, partners and employees.
Oyo also said in a statement that the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) is in discussions with Oyo to boost employability in the Hospitality sector by leveraging Oyo’s expertise in the hospitality segment to develop a hybrid learning program.
Oyo is also working on an alliance with Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) to maintain, market and promote select properties under the corporation.
KTR said, “With a thriving business in Telangana and encouraged by the state’s conducive environment, Oyo not only set up a new engineering facility but is also exploring various avenues of partnership such as with NITHM and TSTDC. I look forward to the success of this collaboration”.
Over the last two years, Oyo has pivoted from being an online hotel aggregator to a franchise model where it manages hotels under the Oyo brand.
It currently has 8,500-plus hotels in more than 230 cities within its network. It claims to be a pioneer of a business model where-in the company partners with hotels to standardize and transform their rooms to deliver a hassle-free experience to guests. The company also recently introduced Oyo Captains, a unique concierge service to ensure smooth travelling and on-stay experience. Oyo currently has operations in India, Malaysia and Nepal.
