Rahul Gandhi at his best, gets appreciation from opponents too

Read Time: 2 minutes

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi addressed students at the University of California, Berkeley, criticising the Modi government on its economic policies and handling of Kashmir conflict.

Apart from demonetisation and the Goods and Services Tax, Gandhi also referred to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and the killing of leftist journalist Gauri Lankesh earlier this month in his address on Tuesday.

Twitter users had a mixed response to Gandhi’s address. Some deemed it “the best speech” by the Congress leader while his critics said it was difficult to take the party seriously.

Here’s a look at some of the reactions:

Congress leaders were all praises for Gandhi:

In 1949, India’s first prime minister and Gandhi’s grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru had delivered a speech at the university. Leaders from Congress party praised Gandhi’s speech for its candour and eloquence.

Glad @OfficeOfRG made it to @UCBerkeley. Massive turnout & great speech/interaction. I had the opportunity to address the university in 2015

Eloquent speech, candid thoughts and open conversation marks Shri Rahul Gandhi’s interaction at @UCBerkeley today.

@OfficeOfRG makes a fine speech in Berkeley but surely this is the time to be speaking on west coast of India, not US west coast!

His supporters were there in numbers

But Gandhi’s critics were unsparing too:

His own understanding is childish. He can only cry and never be a leader of even the lowest knowledge quotient in Congress. Fun material!

Day after day, it is becoming progressively more difficult to take Rahul Gandhi and his party seriously.

BJP leaders were vocal in their criticism of Gandhi’s speech:

Astonishing that Congress VP, Rahul Gandhi goes to US and slams his own Country,India ..It’s frustration of Rahul speaking..Deplorable!

Rahul Gandhi killed all enterprise and dreams of a million people who aren’t dynasts but toiling hard to make a mark..  https://twitter.com/ani/status/907431591265177600
